1. General Policies
Management Rights
– The Stillwater Village Management Team may update this Covenant, town rules, and in-character laws at any time. While changes may be made without prior notice, management will make every reasonable effort to inform residents promptly through Discord announcements, in-world notices, or posted updates.
– If a situation arises that is not covered by the current Covenant, management will make a ruling on the matter and add an appropriate new rule to maintain community standards and fairness.
Standards of Conduct
– All residents, visitors, and staff are expected to maintain a respectful, welcoming environment.
– Prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:
– Harassment, bullying, or targeted personal attacks
– Inappropriate sexual remarks in public areas or directed toward unwilling participants
– Racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory speech or actions
– Disrespectful political or religious commentary
– As a rule of thumb: if your words or actions would make someone feel unsafe or unwelcome, do not engage in them. If you can’t say something kind, don’t say anything at all.
Community Guidelines
– No poaching or solicitation of members for other roleplay communities, games, or servers within any Stillwater platform, including in-world chat, group IMs, or Discord.
– Stillwater Village maintains a Moderate maturity rating as defined by Linden Lab’s Terms of Service (TOS). All public behavior, clothing, and interactions must adhere to these guidelines.
– Visitors must have avatars at least 30 days old unless granted a specific roleplay exception via a support ticket.
– Avoid chat spam—excessive gestures, repetitive emotes, or shouts that disrupt roleplay will not be tolerated.
– Violations of these policies may result in warnings, temporary bans, permanent bans, and/or Linden Lab TOS reporting.
– Management may review chat logs, screenshots, or other evidence when investigating complaints. All parties involved will have an opportunity to share their side before any action is taken.
Avatar Restrictions
– Stillwater Village portrays a human-presenting community within a masquerade/glamor setting.
– No overt fantasy avatars (e.g., mermaids, vampires, lycans, unicorns, fairies) unless approved for a sanctioned storyline.
– Furries are permitted but must appear and behave as humans, without superhuman traits.
– Animal avatars must appear as realistic animals with natural coloration. They may participate as family pets or wild animals but cannot have fantasy enhancements (wings, horns, sparkles) and must emote actions rather than use human speech. Aggressive wild animals may be treated as dangerous IC.
2. Discord & Group Chat Rules
– Always treat fellow members with courtesy and respect, regardless of personal history or differences.
– While you may choose your Discord display name, using your in-character (IC) name is preferred for community consistency.
– RP group chats are IC-only. Keep out-of-character (OOC) messages brief and use double parentheses ((like this)), or move discussions to #general-discussion or private messages.
– Community votes and polls are conducted via Discord, so membership is highly encouraged to ensure your voice is heard.
3. Roleplay Guidelines
– Keep OOC chatter minimal during RP scenes. Extended OOC discussion should be taken to IMs.
– All RP skill levels are welcome. If you are new to roleplay, ask for guidance—many experienced players are happy to help.
– Remember: IC conflict is not OOC conflict. Characters may argue, fight, or oppose one another in-story, but respect between players must remain intact.
– Active RP and crime scenes must display a “Roleplay Information” sign from the Welcome Center with a completed notecard.
– Maintain immersion by avoiding teleporting directly into RP scenes, keeping RL topics out of IC conversations, and treating all local chat as IC unless clearly marked otherwise ((OOC)).
– If RP disputes arise, pause the scene and contact staff via a Discord ticket for mediation.
4. Out-of-Character (OOC) Rules
– Respect resident privacy.
– Flying is prohibited for residents except for management duties.
– Combat systems, HUDs, or meters (e.g., Bloodlines, ZCS, CCS) are not permitted.
– Voice chat is for OOC use only and is allowed in private homes. It is not permitted for IC roleplay.
5. In-Character (IC) Rules
– All public spaces, homes, and businesses are considered IC zones.
– Driving is an IC action—always wear the appropriate Resident or Tourist tag.
– Child Avatars:
– Ages 12+: May roam without a guardian.
– Under 12: Must have a guardian present (NPC/bot is acceptable).
– Crimes must be age-appropriate; guardians are responsible for IC actions.
– No sexual RP involving minors. No unnecessary or excessive violence toward minors. Linden Lab’s TOS applies.
6. Criminal Roleplay
– Committing a crime IC means accepting the IC consequences—arrest, trial, sentencing.
– All crime scenes require a Roleplay Information sign.
– Escapes must be realistic. Injuries and law enforcement responses must be acknowledged.
– Visiting criminals should inform management if not planning to return for follow-up RP.
– Minors committing crimes are subject to the same IC legal processes as adults, adjusted for age.
– Incarcerated characters may still attend community events OOC.
7. Rental Policies
– Some structures (e.g., townhouses, certain commercial buildings) cannot be changed.
– Landscaping must match Stillwater’s vintage/rustic classic theme.
– Parcels are private by default;
– Prim limits must be respected; additional prims may be purchased if available.
– Child avatars may rent businesses but must operate through an adult guardian or NPC.
– Refunds are rare and only granted in exceptional cases; bans do not qualify.
– Skyboxes or elevated platforms are not allowed unless placed by management.
– Shops are managed to avoid excessive duplication of business types.
– Rentals may be reclaimed if abandoned. Waiting list placement is available for new applicants.
-If a rental has less than 10% of it’s prims used for over 3 days and seems abandoned, management retains the right to reclaim the rental.
8. Rezzing Rules
– Visitors may rez objects but must clean up before leaving.
– No adult-rated items may be rezzed in public.
– Unattended items may be returned unless part of an active RP scene with a visible sign.
9. Weapons Rules
– Open Carry: Residents only, age 21+, with a valid permit and Stillwater address.
– Concealed Carry: Permit required for all concealed firearms, including rifles and shotguns.
– You must inform law enforcement if you are armed during any interaction.
– Military-grade weapons, vehicles, or tactical gear are prohibited except for law enforcement or specifically approved cases.
– Weapons are prohibited in schools, government buildings, and alcohol-serving establishments (except for law enforcement).
– Firearms transported in vehicles must be secured in a locked trunk (emote locking them before driving).
10. DMV & Driving
– Licenses are available to both residents and non-residents. Valid licenses from other communities are recognized for RP purposes.
– Minimum age for a license: 16.
– Permits for ages 15–17 have driving restrictions.
– Processing time: 48–72 hours.
– Limit of one rezzed vehicle per person, except for emergency services while on duty.
– Vehicles left unattended in public spaces may receive citations. Three citations will result in a suspended license.
– Civilian vehicles may not display emergency light bars unless approved by management.
